Overview

ptla groupThe Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy (PTLA) is a paid 1 year-long program that provides outstanding school principal preparation to exceptionally talented individuals who will lead high need schools to educational excellence. PTLA participants attend full-time during the 12 month program. The PTLA program includes rigorous summer coursework followed by a school leadership internship conducted during the regular K-12 school year. PTLA is an initiative funded by North Carolina's Race to the Top grant.
 

ptla groupPTLA is a partnership among Alamance Burlington School System (ABSS), Asheboro City Schools (ACS), Guilford County Schools (GCS),Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WSFCS), Piedmont Triad Education Consortium (PTEC), & the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG).

Key Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy Features

  • PTLA is a paid, full-time, 1 year-long principal preparation program.
  • Beginning in July, PTLA participants complete intensive summer coursework. Then, beginning in August, PTLA participants complete a school-based, full-time clinical residency internship experience during the K-12 school year.
  • PTLA participants participate in an action-learning PTLA Leadership for School Improvement curriculum co-developed and co-taught by UNCG faculty and district partnership school leaders.
  • PTLA participants benefit from a multi-faceted support structure, including University supervision, district mentors, and PTLA coaching.
  • PTLA graduates receive PTLA and district support in seeking school leadership positions upon completing the program. PTLA participants commit to 3 years of service in the partnership districts upon graduation.
  • PTLA graduates will be eligible to receive North Carolina state licensure as a school principal after successfully completing the PTLA program.
  • PTLA graduates also earn credits toward a UNCG Post Masters Certificate in School Administration or Master of School Administration.

PTLA Calendar

PTLA is currently funded to prepare future principals for 3 years, 2011-2014. Current PTLA participants began the program in July 2011, with an expected program completion date of June 2012.

We are now recruiting future PTLA participants who will start the program in July 2012 with an expected completion date of June 2013. See details and links below.
