Attendance. Optional but recommended. You are responsible for what happens in class whether you attend or not. Please do not call or e-mail me to ask what you have missed. Get the phone numbers/e-mails of a couple of classmates whom you can contact.

Attendance at exams is required. There are no make-up exams. YOU MUST BE PRESENT IN CLASS ON THE DAY OF THE EXAM TO TAKE THE EXAM. NO EXCUSES ACCEPTED. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Grading. Grading is based solely on exams.

Exams. There are four exams, one on each of the plays. You must take three of the exams. If you take all four, I’ll drop your lowest grade. The exams are short answer (for example, multiple choice, true-false, fill in the blank, matching speakers and speeches). All questions on the exam come from the text of the play.

The exam schedule is:

A Midsummer Night’s Dream …….9/16
1 Henry IV………………………..10/14
Othello…………………………….11/7
The Tempest……………………….12/2

Honor code. Students violating the UNCG Honor Code will receive an F in the course, and I will report the students’ names to the Dean of Students, who may take additional action, which can include expulsion for a second offense. The Honor Code is printed in the UNCG Student Handbook. You are responsible for knowing the contents of the code.

Classroom behavior. Attendance is optional (except for exams), so if you come to class, behave in an appropriate manner. The classroom is not the place for text-messaging friends, reading the newspaper, conversing with classmates, or other such annoying behavior. Annoying behavior includes coming in late and/or leaving early. It also includes packing up your worldly possessions at a quarter to the hour. If you engage in such behavior I will ask you to leave. If you repeat the offense, I’ll drop you from the class. Be sure to turn off all noise-making devices before class begins.
