Our first meeting of the whole EGSA body for the 2009-2010 year was a state-of-the-organization meeting on Friday, September 18. We talked about what the EGSA has done in the past, what we're doing now, and what we could do in the future.
EGSA held a mid-semester orientation--for all, but especially for new people in all degree programs (MA, MEd, MFA, PhD)--on Thursday, Oct. 1. We drank some coffee, ate some fruit, and talked about being grad students in the English department at UNCG.
On Thursday, February 18 at 3:00, we had an EGSA body meeting to discuss organization business and our current intellectual projects. Prompted by an email from the Graduate Student Association, we expressed some preliminary interest in collaborating with grad students from other departments for interdisciplinary scholarly talks. We also decided to lay some groundwork for reading groups that would meet regularly to discuss material for comps, dissertation writing, or whatever theory may be of interest to those involved. We then spent about forty-five minutes discussing our current projects with our colleagues, making connections and sharing some advice.
