MA: How to Apply
Requests for application packets must be obtained from the
Graduate
School. Note that all materials are online. Please remember that creative writing workshops and courses are restricted to those admitted to the MFA program.
Deadline for Entry Fall Semester 2009:
1 July 2009
Deadline for Entry Spring Semester 2009:
1 November 2008
In addition to the formal application, MA applicants must complete these six elements:
- Two transcripts of all previous work showing a major in English with a 3.0 GPA or better in the major
- Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic work
- Scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (scores more than 5 years old will not count)
Items 1-3 should be sent directly to The Graduate School along with a completed application.
- A 1-2 page statement of purpose
- A writing sample (a research essay from a previous class; must be a nonfiction piece, 10-20 pp.)
- A current CV or resume
