Assistantships

At this time, the Department of English is not able to offer tuition waivers or assistantships to MA students. However, across campus graduate assistantships in administrative positions are available on a limited basis. For instance, our masters students have held assistantships in the UNCG Writing Center, the Graduate School, the Financial Aid Office, and CASA, among other offices and programs.

These graduate assistantships across campus are open to all graduate students at UNCG and are competitive via an application and interview process. Eligibility requires that a graduate student be in good standing (meaning not on a provisional admission), enrolled full time each semester (at least six graduate credit hours) and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

These assistantships range in pay from $8,000 to $12,000 per semester requiring from 10 to 20 work hours per week. Available positions and job descriptions are listed with the UNCG Student Employment Office in the Elliott University Center (put here: room number, phone, and web address if it has one).

Because these opportunities are both limited and competitive, most of the masters students in English work full or part-time outside of the university.
