MEd: How to Apply


Deadline for Entry Fall Semester 2009: 1 July 2009

Deadline for Entry Spring Semester 2009: 1 November 2008

Requests for application packets must be obtained from the Graduate School. Fill out a brief form, and they will send everything to you directly. Please remember that creative writing workshops and courses are restricted to those admitted to the MFA program.

In addition to the formal application, MEd applicants have six elements to the application:
  1. Two transcripts of all previous work showing a major in English with a 3.0 GPA or better in the major
  2. Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic work
  3. Scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (scores more than 5 years old will not count)
    Items 1-3 should be sent directly to The Graduate School along with a completed application.
  4. A 1-2 page statement of purpose
  5. A writing sample (a research essay from a previous class; must be a nonfiction piece, 10-20 pp.)
  6. A current CV or resume
Note: MEd applicants who want to pursue the Teacher Leadership track will also need to include a photocopy of their current high school English license.
