Master of Arts Program

EGSA panel audience

The Department of English offers a program of study leading to a 30-36 hour Master of Arts degree. MA students choose one of three plans of study:

  • Thesis Plan, including coursework in Literary Studies and Theory
  • Teaching Composition Plan, preparing students for teaching English at community colleges
  • Minor Field Plan, allowing cross-disciplinary opportunities with courses in Women's and Gender Studies, School of Education, the Arts, etc.
All masters students in the English Department select from these plans of study. No more than three courses at the 500-level may be submitted for the degree. All other work must be at the 600-level and above.
