"AOI" is an expression of unknown meaning found in the Oxford manuscript of the Chanson de Roland (French: "Song of Roland") where it occurs 172 times, usually following the last lines of a laisse (stanza). It is presumed by most scholars to be an exclamation of some sort. Pound may be supporting this view though his addition of an exclamation point.
