About a Dancer in the News

by Jennifer Eldridge

Imagine it’s like repeating something
Until it turns around
In your head
The way the dryer spins
Week old laundry
Into an extravagant tumble
A centripetal ballroom of over
And over and over again

That type of thing
Makes your bones snore

No surprise
When she woke up one day
Her feet hurt excessively
And she skipped
Everything instead
She shot herself
While looking in the mirror

Think about
Watching yourself
The moment when
You stop dancing
And you fall
From the center

To the bottom
Of the floor
