Research Retreat IV- ACL INJURIES: THE GENDER BIAS

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Department of Exercise and Sport Science is pleased to host Research Retreat IV- ACL INJURIES: THE GENDER BIAS that will take place April 3-5, 2008 at the Greensboro Marriott Downtown.

FORMAT:
The format will feature presentations by well known experts in the field and 15-minute podium presentations of research relating to gender bias in ACL injuries. Significant time will be provided for group discussion following each keynote and each group of podium presentations. At the conclusion of the meeting our goal will be to revisit and update the consensus statement from the 2006 research retreat based on progress in the field.

*Keynote Lectures:

Scott McLean PhD
University of Michigan
Dr. McLean is a biomechanist whose research interests pertain primarily to identifying the underlying mechanisms of sports-related injuries. He utilizes a combination of human experimentation, musculoskeletal modeling and cadaveric modeling to gain insights into these mechanisms, enabling more effective injury screening and prevention strategies to be formulated. Bruce Beynnon PhD
University of Vermont
Dr. Beynnon is currently leading clinical studies designed to evaluate different anterior cruciate ligament surgical techniques and rehabilitation programs with particular concern on the long-term stability of the knee and return to full activity. Recently, he has focused on identifying the risk factors that predispose athletes to lower extremity injuries such as knee and ankle ligament sprains. An additional research interest is the influence of abnormal joint loads on the initiation and progression of osteoarthritis. Read more....
