The Ph.D. Program in Exercise and Sport Science with a Specialization in Exercise Physiology is primarily intended to prepare academic researchers. The curriculum is designed to enhance the depth and breadth of knowledge in the physiological responses to acute and chronic participation in physical activity and the long term effects on health and wellness. In consultation with the primary advisor and the doctoral committee, each student tailors a plan of study to address the academic goals of each student and to expand the basic, applied or field-based research skills of the student. Admission to the Ph.D. specialization in Exercise Physiology is competitive and is also based on alignment of the student's research interests with the research agendas of faculty.
