Satisfying ESS Master's Degree Breadth Requirements at Other Institutions

Transfer Hours

A student may complete the master's degree three-course breadth requirement by transferring graduate courses from other institutions. The student must discuss the content of each proposed transfer course with an appropriate UNCG faculty specialist in the area, and upon approval of the specialist and the Graduate Coordinator the student may use the course to satisfy the pertinent breadth requirement.

Courses Not Proposed for Transfer

There are times when a student has taken a graduate course at another institution but may not transfer the course to UNCG as part of his/her official master's program. In rare circumstances that make it extremely difficult for a student to take a UNCG course to satisfy a breadth requirement, a student may be able to use a graduate course not transferred to UNCG to satisfy one of the three breadth requirement areas. The student must discuss the content of the course with an appropriate UNCG faculty specialist and the Graduate Coordinator approval will be given to waive completion of a UNCG course in the pertinent breadth area. In such a case, the student must complete an additional course in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at UNCG.
