The Department of Dance is located in the School of Health and Human Performance (HHP Building) and awards a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees. The Department offers a variety of courses, including five levels of modern dance, five levels of ballet, three levels of jazz, two of African, and two of tap dance. In addition, there are courses in Brazilian, European folk, social dance, performance/repertory, choreography, dance history, dance production, body science for dance, yoga for dance, and dance education. The dance facilities are excellent, consisting of five studios each with mirrors, pianos and complete sound systems, an extensive video resource library, video recording and editing equipment, a complete sound editing studio and a fully equipped 155-seat dance theater. All Dance events are held in the HHP Building and include performances choreographed and performed by students, faculty and visiting companies. The Department is proud to have its own Dance Theatre, in which 10-15 concert programs are produced each year. Each fall, the department hosts the opening performances of the North Carolina Dance Festival, started by UNCG faculty, which tours the state of North Carolina with a broad range of modern dance created by NC artists.
