Our students are special . . .
The students in UNCG's Food, Nutrition and
Food Service Management programs are extremely motivated both
intellectually and physically. Their hard work has been recognized with a
number of honors and commendations from university and non-affiliated
groups.

Two undergraduate students received UNCG Student Excellence Awards,
1996 and one in 1997.

Chen Chen was awarded the American Heart Association (NC Affiliate)
predoctoral fellowship, 1995-1996.

Mary Evans received the prestigious Mary Evans, UNCG Hayes and Executive
Fund Fellowship for the 1997-1998 academic year.

Lorraine Lanningham-Foster, a Master's graduate, won the Derieux
Award, a competitive research award from the N.C. Academy of Science, 1995

Two doctoral students, Robin Hopkins and Keith Martin, were
among twelve international finalists in the American Institutute of Nutrition
Graduate Research Competition, 1996

Melissa Johnson, a graduate student, received the Ahmad award in the
Southern Association Student Competition at the Southeast Regional Meeting
of the Institute of Food Technology and a Sigma XI student grant for
1996-97.

Yoland Renee Lea-Currie, a Ph.D. student, received a National Institute
of Health Minority Predoctoral Fellowship Award, 1996-1999, to study the
antiobesity actions of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).

Dean Garret, Jing Xu and Yuan-ji Pan received Sigma
XI student grants for the 1997-1998 academic year.

Anita Todd, undergraduate student, received the Gladys Strawn Bullard
Award, 1996, for outstanding leadership in service to the University
