Work Responsibilities

The work week during the supervised practice experience is a minimum of 40 hours. Students are expected to utilize evenings and weekends to study or complete assignments and projects.

Holidays

While on campus for the two courses in the Fall, the DI program follows the University calendar. Holidays are: Labor Day (1) day; Fall Break (2) days. After placement in the supervised practice program, students will follow the schedule established for them by the respective site (i.e., the University calendar no longer applies).

Health Insurance

Each student must have health insurance. A student may elect to participate in the UNCG sponsored group insurance policy, or be insured with his / her parents or spouse.

Liability Insurance

Each student must have Liability Insurance coverage of $1-3 million through McGinnis Associates (1-800-621-3008 ext. 245) for $35 per year.

Car

Because the affiliations where students are placed are located throughout North Carolina, each DI student will need access to a car and must carry sufficient automobile insurance coverage for collision and liability.

Housing

Students are responsible for their own living arrangements. A few sites offer free or low-cost housing.

Uniforms

Each DI student will provide his / her own laboratory coats to be worn over appropriate street clothes and will need white uniforms and shoes for food production in affiliations which require them.

Stipend

No stipend is provided.

Financial Aid

This is a post-BS, certificate program so that students are eligible for limited subsidized loan amounts. Additional unsubsidized loan funds are available for students defined as independent from their parents or those older than 24 years.
