Association's national registration examination to become a registered dietitian
Accreditation
The Dietetic Internship at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
is currently granted accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation / Approval
for Dietetics Education of The American Dietetic Association. CAADE is
a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Commission on Recognition
of Postsecondary Accreditation and the United States Department of Education.

Application Deadline
Dietetic Internship application must be postmarked no later than February
15, 1998 for April 1998 selection.
We use the American Dietetic Associations's (ADA) standard application and
reference forms (1998). These forms are available on computer disk
from the American Dietetic Association for $7.00. If you are unable
to obtain the forms, write, call or e-mail Dr. Martha Taylor at
martha_taylor@uncg.edu and they will be sent to you.
Entrance Requirements
(Minimum Selection Criteria) A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college
or university with completion of the Didactic program in Dietetics as required
by The American Dietetic Association. A minimum cumulative grade point average
of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in nutrition, foods,
food science, food service management, chemistry, biochemistry, biology,
physiology, and microbiology courses. Varied work experiences in dietetics
and/or food service are preferred. Applicants will be evaluated based upon
their academic performance, work / volunteer experiences, letters of reference,
and statement of professional goals. The selection process is highly competitive.
Due to a limitation on the number of placements that can be made
for a given year, not all applicants who meet the minimum requirements
may be selected.
Starting Date
Third week of August according to the University calendar.
Length of DI Program
2 semesters (9 weeks on campus for classes followed by 6 months of supervised
practice experience).
Number of DI Students
Up to 21 may be accepted each year, depending upon the availability of facilities
to provide the supervised practice experience. (Average class size over the
past 2 years has been 15-16 students)
Site Placement
Site affiliations are located throughout North Carolina and students will
interview with several site directors and their staff in the early Fall in
order to obtain specific placement for the supervised practice experience.
Acceptance into the DI program does not guarantee placement
for supervised field experiences at sites in the Greensboro / Winston-Salem
metropolitan areas. The Program Director cannot guarantee that each student
will receive a placement of his / her preference. Students who are dissatisfied
with their placement assignment can re-interview or withdraw from the DI
program.
