A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in nutrition, foods, food science, food service management, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physiology, and microbiology courses. Varied work experiences in dietetics and/or food service are preferred. Applicants will be evaluated based upon their academic performance, work / volunteer experiences, letters of reference, and statement of professional goals. The selection process is highly competitive. Due to a limitation on the number of placements that can be made for a given year, not all applicants who meet the minimum requirements may be selected.

Third week of August according to the University calendar.

Length of DI Program

2 semesters (9 weeks on campus for classes followed by 6 months of supervised practice experience).

Up to 21 may be accepted each year, depending upon the availability of facilities to provide the supervised practice experience. (Average class size over the past 2 years has been 15-16 students)

Site Placement

Site affiliations are located throughout North Carolina and students will interview with several site directors and their staff in the early Fall in order to obtain specific placement for the supervised practice experience. The Program Director cannot guarantee that each student will receive a placement of his / her preference. Students who are dissatisfied with their placement assignment can re-interview or withdraw from the DI program.
