Programs within the department will prepare
students for careers in the foodservice industry; in the health field
as dietitians working in public health, nursing homes, and hospitals;
and as nutrition education specialists for private and government
organizations. The department's programs nutrition science and dietetics
are excellent preprofessional training for students interested in Medical,
Dental or Veterinary school.

Concentrations
The Department of Nutrition and Foodservice
Systems offers a B.S. depree in three concentrations; Dietetics, Nutrition
Science, and Restaurant and Institution Management.

Dietetics the application
of the principles of nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, managememnt, behavioral
and social sciences to the promotion of optimal health in individuals.
Students in this concentration meet the academic requirements for membership
in the American Dietetic Association. The Department's Didactic Program
in Dietetics is currently granted approval status by the Commission on
Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic
Association, 216 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312/899-4876.

We also have a post-B.S. Dietetic Internship
program.

Nutrition Science the scientific
basis for the metabolism of nutrients and the role of nutrients in health
and disease. Students will be prepared to enter fields in which a strong,
integrated bioscience knowledge base in needed, such as research, medicine
and pharmacology. Most Nutrition Science students eventually pursue graduate
