School of Education

JUNE 25, 2009 through JUNE 30, 2009 - Temporary Closing of Kenilworth St.

The Contractor on the new School of Education Building project will be closing a portion of Kenilworth St., from Theta St. to Spring Garden St., for the installation of an electrical ductbank. A detour will be in place to direct traffic around the portion of Kenilworth that will be closed. Vehicles turning onto Kenilworth St. from Walker Ave. will be routed onto Theta St., Stirling St., and back to Walker Ave. Please follow the detour signs and be especially watchful for pedestrians.

JUNE 29, 2009 through JULY 5, 2009 - Temporary Closing of West Bound Lane of Spring Garden St.

The Contractor on the new School of Education Building project will be closing a portion of the West Bound Lane of Spring Garden St., between Forest St. and Kenilworth St., for the installation of storm sewer pipe. West bound traffic on Spring Garden St. will be detoured at Forest St., to Oakland Ave., Kenilworth St., and back onto the West bound lane of Spring Garden St. Please follow the detour signs and be especially watchful for pedestrians.

SUMMER 2009

Work on the new School of Education Building, located on Spring Garden Street between Stirling Street and Kenilworth Street, began on May 18th. In order to extend underground utilities to the new building, the streets near the building site will be reduced to one lane at various times and street detours may also be employed. Signage will be installed to direct pedestrians around areas of work, sections of closed sidewalks, etc. We will continue to update this Construction Alert as work progresses and a more detailed work schedule is developed. The street map located above indicates the general areas of the campus that will be affected by this project. Please use caution in these areas.

Underground utility lines are being installed in Stirling Street. Please use caution when driving or walking in this area. Construction fencing, traffic signs, cones, and flagmen will be in place as needed to assist with traffic control. All parking spaces from Spring Garden Street to Theta Street are closed. <<back to map

Starting in early June, the Contractor will begin excavation and installation of multiple underground utility lines in sections of Spring Garden St. between Kenilworth St. and Stirling St. Some of this work will take place during normal work hours - - 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM - - and some work will take place after normal work hours. Please use caution when driving or walking in this area. Certain aspects of this work may require temporary vehicle and/or pedestrian detours to be installed. Please follow all instructions posted on detour signs. Construction fencing, traffic signs, cones and flagmen will be in place as needed to assist with traffic control. <<back to map


HHP 2-Court and 3-Court Roof Replacement

Work has started on the roof replacement for the HHP Building's 2-Court and 3-Court gymnasiums. Please use caution when walking near the Contractor's staging area, located between the gymnasiums and the soccer field.


Steam Distribution Piping Replacement

A portion of the sidewalk at The Rock and Clock Tower will be closed beginning May 11 and continuing through the summer and early fall for replacement of the underground steam distribution piping. The Contractor will also be accessing the steam tunnel and constructing new steam vaults along the route from the Mendenhall Residence Hall south to the Fountain, from the Fountain to The Rock, and east from The Rock to College Avenue. Please use caution in these areas.


North and South Spencer Residence Halls - Fire Protection Systems

A portion of the sidewalk between the Library and South Spencer Hall will be closed during the summer in order to install a new fire sprinkler system in North and South Spencer Hall.
