About
the Family Research Center
The UNCG Family Research Center was founded to contribute
to the understanding of positive family relationships and the role of families
in children’s
development. Initially supported by a grant from the William T. Grant Foundation
in 1977, the Family Research Center is now an integral part of the Department
of Human Development & Family Studies in the School of Human Environmental
Sciences at UNCG.
The goals of the Family Research Center are to foster collaborative research
on families at UNCG and to create a supportive atmosphere for interdisciplinary
programs of research on families. We also work to communicate the results
of our research to the wider community to enhance families’ lives
and inform the decisions of policy makers.
In addition to faculty from HDFS, faculty from Psychology and the Center for
Youth, Families, and Community Partnerships participate as affiliates of the Family Research
Center.
The Family Research Center is housed in its own building. It provides space
for observational research with families, meeting space, computer facilities,
and administrative support for collaborative research proposals and projects.
