There are two types of essays you will be writing:
1. Save the completed document as text. Typically, this involves selecting the File menu of your word processor, then Save As. One of the options will be for Text. Select this. Once saved, your file will have a .txt extension. Consult the Help feature/menu of your word processor for specific instructions.

2. Attach the files to e-mail addressed to your instructor. Typically, this involves composing a message to your instructor, then clicking the "Attach" button (usually denoted with paper clips). You will see a "dialog box" (seen below) requesting you to locate the file (on your floppy or on your hard disk) and to select it for attachment.
