Class of 2014 ...
 Aimee Brown grew up in Lilburn, GA. She graduated from the University of West Georgia summa cum laude, where she majored in Biology and minored in Psychology. While at UWG, she became a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, international music fraternity for women, Inc. To prepare for graduate school, she volunteered as a victim advocate at the West Georgia Rape Crisis Center and had an internship at the Emory Genetics Clinic with the Nutrition Department, where she also had the opportunity to shadow a cancer genetic counselor.  Jordan Dix grew up in Plymouth, MI, just outside of Ann Arbor. She graduated from Central Michigan University summa cum laude, where she majored in both Neuroscience and Psychology. While at Central, Jordan worked in a molecular biology laboratory and was also a T.A. for biostatistics. In addition, she was a Supplemental Instruction leader for chemistry. To prepare for graduate school, Jordan volunteered as an advocate at the Women’s Aid Shelter and at Oakwood Hospital. She also shadowed prenatal and cancer genetic counselors.  Lauren Griffin is originally from East Windsor, CT and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular & Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut in 2009. During this time, she was involved in clinical research in the Emergency Department at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. After graduation, she worked in a Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics research lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA studying copy-number variation amongst populations. In Boston, she volunteered with Samaritans as a befriender on their suicide-prevention hotline. She also met with and shadowed a number of genetic counselors in the Boston area, including at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and at Tuft’s Medical Center Maternal Fetal Medicine unit.  Sarah Hart is from Allentown, PA but has lived in Durham, NC for the past 11 years. She received her B.A. in psychology from Boston University and her Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill. After graduate school, Sarah worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Psychiatry and conducted research studies using brain imaging to study individuals with psychiatric and genetic disorders. She decided to make a career change in order to work more closely with patients and to help people who may be struggling with difficult medical situations. To prepare for the program, she shadowed a genetic counselor at the Cancer Genetics Clinic at UNC-Chapel Hill and spent a year volunteering as a companion at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center. sjhart@uncg.edu |
 Becca Johnson grew up in Tea, SD. She completed her undergraduate work at Augustana College where she received a degree in Biology. After completion of her undergraduate degree, she received a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Anatomy from Creighton University. To prepare for starting a genetic counseling program Becca did an internship in a cancer specialty clinic and volunteered for a domestic and sexual abuse hotline. Becca works as a graduate assistant for the genetic counseling program here at UNCG.  Natalie Poullard was born and grew up in Houston, Texas. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Notre Dame where she majored in Psychology and Gender Studies. Natalie first became interested in genetic counseling while working toward her M.A. in Psychology at Brandeis University. After graduating from Brandeis, she shadowed a genetic counselor at the University Medical Center Brackenridge OB High Risk Program in Austin, Texas and volunteered at the National Domestic Violence Hotline. n_poulla@uncg.edu |
 Heather Rocha is from Media, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Kutztown University with a BS in Molecular Biology and minored in Biochemistry.While working on her degree she volunteered for the Special Olympics, worked in the Biochemistry lab, tutored Biology courses and spent one summer working as a genetic counseling research assistant at Elwyn in Media, PA. Heather spent two years as a 1:1 aid at the Meadowood Program in Wilmington, DE and worked for the International 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome Foundation.  Elizabeth Sengstock grew up in Green Bay, WI. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2012 where she majored in Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development. During her time at the U of M she worked and did directed research in a cell biology lab. To prepare for entrance into a genetic counseling program she volunteered in a pediatric genetics clinic conducting interviews to create better patient materials. In addition, she shadowed genetic counselors and volunteered creating databases and filing patient folders.
