G. Jay Lennartson, Assistant Professor

Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Environmental Planning, Environmental Hazards, Climatology, and Meteorology

Dr. Lennartson's research interests include investigations of tropospheric ozone concentrations at the local, regional, and synoptic scales; and the urban heat island effect as it relates to urban form and structure.

With regard to tropospheric ozone, his research has focused on exceedances of the federal health standard for ozone in the Lake Michigan Region of the United States, and in the Southeastern United States.

His findings have been published in such internationally recognized journals as Climate Research and the International Journal of Climatology.

He has also investigated the urban heat island effect associated with edge cities in the United States.

He has also worked closely with the Piedmont Land Conservancy of North Carolina and the North Carolina State Climate Office to establish a weather/climate monitoring station at the Geography Department's research station (the LEAF center) at Lindale Farm in High Point, North Carolina.
