UNS 105: THE LEARNING COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE COURSE:
All Grogan interest group meet with their faculty fellow and peer mentor in a dedicated section of UNS 105: The Learning Community Experience. Concurrent registration in this 2 credit 2 hour course allows for a standard meeting time for the group, and provides a context for planning co-curricular activities and field experiences that are related to the group’s academic topic. In addition, faculty fellows are expected to design a syllabus for their UNS 105 section that achieves certain additional learning goals such as orientation to campus and key campus services, research skills, writing and speaking/presenting skills, core study skills, time management skills, team work, and awareness of global and social issues, leadership development, civic engagement, and critical thinking. Deeper exploration of topics in the interest group’s linked academic courses is also a part of UNS 105.
