Fisher Prize
The George and Beatrice Goldman Fisher Gerontology Prize at UNCG offers two annual awards. One award, $1000, is for the best UNCG dissertation in any discipline. The other prize, $500, is for the best UNCG masters thesis or project. Both awards are given for work which "best advances improvement in the quality of life of the elderly." Each academic department offering doctoral or masters degrees may nominate its students for prize consideration. This award can only be given to a student whose work is submitted the same calendar year as her/his graduation.
Deadline for application for the dissertation prize is February 25. Deadline for the masters prize is March 10. Contact the UNCG Graduate School to confirm application deadlines and details.
The following criteria will be used in awarding the Fisher prizes:
- Contribution this work makes to gerontology
- Originality in selection and formulation of research topic
- Skill and creativity in the use of methodology or research techniques
