Assistant Professor at Miami University Department of Sociology and Gerontology. (Posted here October 9, 2008).
Miami University’s Department of Sociology & Gerontology, in conjunction with the Scripps Gerontology Center, seeks applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level beginning August 2009. A Ph.D. is required by the start date. We seek a scholar with experience in teaching and conducting research in social gerontology on issues surrounding international/global aging and expertise in qualitative or mixed research methods. Applicants should have an active research agenda and a track record in, or potential for, securing external funding. Teaching responsibilities are at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We will consider applicants from a range of disciplinary backgrounds. Miami University is classified as a Doctoral Intensive Institution with an emphasis on excellence in undergraduate education, and strong graduate programs in selected disciplines. The department has offered a Master of Gerontological Studies degree since 1977; began offering a bachelor’s degree in gerontology in 2002; and launched a doctoral program in social gerontology in 2005. The Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University provides support for the academic programs and for faculty who conduct aging-related research. The Gerontological Society of America is conducting a search to fill the position of Assistant Director for the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE), GSA’s educational arm. Project Compassion Circles of Care Coordinator, a New Initiative for AfricanAmericans Living with Advanced Cancer (Posted here September 3, 2008)

Circles of Care is a new initiative to recruit and train a network of volunteer Support Teams that will provide health information and practical caregiving to African-Americans living with advanced cancer in Durham, Orange and Wake counties. The initiative is a collaboration among the UNC School of Medicine, Clinical Cancer Centers, and the Community Health Coalition and Project Compassion. The Circles of Care Coordinator will coordinate training, coaching, resources and support for Support Team partners, leaders and team members. The person in this full-time position will be highly motivated, an excellent communicator, organizer, and group facilitator. Knowledge and experience regarding advanced cancer and the needs of the African American community is strongly preferred. Experience working with volunteers is also strongly preferred. Information Specialist in the Aging Transitions Division of the Orange County Department on Aging. (Posted here August 18, 2008).
This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team working together to keep seniors living safely at home for as long as possible. The information specialist coordinates the Senior Health Insurance and Information program (SHIIP), functioning as the primary source for all Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Part D information in Orange County, by training and supervising volunteers and providing classes and individual benefits counseling. The information specialist also provides information on resources to older adults, caregivers, and the community in both oral and written format, including making presentations; responding to telephone requests and walk-in clients; writing newspaper articles; updating the web-site, community resource guide, brochures, and consumer information packets. Aging Systems Coordinator with Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments Area on Aging (Posted here September 4, 2008). NW Piedmont Council of Governments seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Aging Systems Coordinator. Job duties will include working with a coordinated information management system, developing consumer directed care programming for older adults and persons with disabilities, implementing evidence based health promotion programming, and facilitating county based planning that impacts delivery of quality aging services within a five county region. Applicants should have strong communication and organizational skills, knowledge of database management,
experience working with older adults and programs serving older adults, agency performance monitoring, and strategic planning.
