International Applicant Requirements

Application Deadlines for international applicants

The general deadline for receipt of application and all supporting documents is May 15 for Fall Semester, September 15 for Spring Semester, and February 15 for Summer Session. Deadlines may be extended one month if the international student is already in the U.S. Prospective students should check with individual departments as some programs have earlier deadlines. Non-resident aliens who plan to enter the U.S. on a F-1 or J-1 visa must provide certification of financial support in order to receive the I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status - for Academic and Language Students).

English Proficiency

Non-native speakers of English with international transcripts, regardless of U.S. citizenship, must validate proficiency in the English language. Applicants may submit a satisfactory score on a language proficiency test. If the TOEFL is the chosen test, the minimum required score depends on the form of the exam taken (internet based - 79, or paper based - 550). A score of at least 6.5 is required on the IELTS. The language requirement also may be fulfilled by completion of INTERLINK, the intensive English language program located on UNCG's campus (www.uncg.edu/ipg/interlink/) through Level 5. The English language proficiency requirement may be waived if the applicant is a graduate of a university in a country where English is the official language.

Credentials

All supporting credentials must be in English. Applicants will be given the opportunity to upload *evaluations with the transcripts of academic records issued by every college and university previously attended. Applicants may also mail official documents to:
The Graduate School
Attn: Admissions
241 Mossman Building
PO Box 26170
Greensboro, NC 27402-6170

* International Transcripts must be accompanied by a NACES-affiliated credential evaluation service, preferably Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), Educational Perspectives (EP), International Education Research Foundation (IREF), or World Education Services (WES). For any application submitted on or after June 1, 2011, the credential evaluation is required at the time of application, along with the transcripts. The table below should be consulted to determine whether a general or detailed report is required for your academic program. For a list of NACES-affiliates please visit: www.naces.org/members.htm. Applicants should expect to pay an average fee of $125 and allow up to one month for processing and delivery. Transcripts or diplomas must contain the name of the degree and date conferred; the NACES evaluation must also contain the name of the degree and the US equivalency. Applications for formally recognized UNCG Visiting Scholar or Exchange programs are exempt from this requirement.
