Visions

Visions is a program offered in the Fall or Spring to visiting and non-degree seeking students who already hold a bachelor’s degree. There is no summer admittance through Visions. To take classes in the summer as a non-degree seeking student, please apply as a visiting student through the Division of Continual Learning.

Prospective Visions students may want to take one or more courses for a variety of reasons including personal enrichment, professional knowledge, or renewal of teacher licensure. Visions permits students to register for classes without being admitted to a particular program of study. Credits earned at UNCG through Visions are recorded in the University Registrar’s Office on an official transcript.

Visions Enrollment Form

To enroll in Visions please submit the Visions Enrollment Form along with a $20 non-refundable enrollment fee. Students already enrolled through Visions must complete the enrollment form and submit the $20 non-refundable fee every semester.

The Enrollment Form can also be filled out online. When filling out the Enrollment Form, please fill out the dropdown options as shown below, selecting the appropriate term. Visions Dropdown selections

*submitting a paper Enrollment Form will result in a longer processing time.

Visions Eligibility

To be eligible to enroll, you must:

  1. Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited College or University.
  2. Not be currently enrolled as a degree student at UNCG.
  3. Do not have an application for admission to The Graduate School under review for the same semester.
  4. Check with the department of interest (e.g., Art, Business Administration) and meet special requirements that may exist for that department.

Visions enrollment forms will be processed in the order received until the January 6, 2012. Submitted Visions forms will be reviewed in The Graduate School and a decision made quickly about the student’s eligibility. When a student is deemed eligible to register through Visions, they will be contacted via email with their registration information (student identification number, PIN, and advising code).

Note: If you requested not to receive information by email or submitted your enrollment form on the last day to submit you will not receive this email and will have to contact the Graduate School to receive your registration information.

Course Availability and Restrictions

The Graduate School Bulletin (catalog) is available in The Graduate School found on-line at grs.uncg.edu/bulletin . The Bulletin can also be mailed for $2.00.

To see a list of recommended courses for Visions Students, click here.

Not all courses are available to Visions students, and many other courses reach peak enrollment during early registration. Some courses have prerequisites or co-requisites, which are noted in the current Bulletin. These requirements must be met before students are allowed to register unless the instructor gives permission for individual students to enroll.

Advising

Students considering later enrollment in a degree program are strongly encouraged to contact their department to determine which Visions class will count toward your degree.

  1. No courses below the 500-level will count toward a graduate degree.
  2. A maximum of 9 hours in courses numbered 749 and below may be taken through Visions and applied to a graduate degree or 3 hours for a certificate.
  3. There are restrictions on which classes are available to Visions students. Contact the department of interest for more information.

Registration

Visions students will receive their registration information through email. They will then log onto UNCGenie to sign up for classes. Please visit the Registrar’s website for the date you should register. All Visions students are considered visiting students and should follow the visiting students registration calendar.
If you did not give permission to have registration information sent via email, you will need to contact the Graduate School for your registration information.

Special Written Permission

Written permission from the instructor and/or department is required for enrollment in a closed or restricted course. Students must obtain such permission on a Drop/Add Permission Form, which is obtained from and returned to the University Registrar’s Office (180 Mossman Building).
