Shakiera Causey, M.A. is a new graduate student in the combined MS/PHD degree program. She is originally from New Bern, North Carolina. She has taught undergraduate psychology at Virginia State University and Guilford Technical Community College. She possesses a B.A. and M.A. degree from North Carolina Central University. Her published research focuses on African American mental health, African American families, health disparities, and psychosocial development in African American adolescence. Her research interests also include intimate partner violence, African American feminism and masculinity, HIV risk behaviors, co-parenting relationships and their impact on adolescent identity development, and gender studies. She has a seven year old pit bull mix named Riley and enjoys checking out the music scene and local markets in her spare time.
