Dan Perlman’s scholarly activities have focused on close relationships, especially loneliness. He is co-author of the text, Intimate Relationships (McGraw-Hill) and co-editor of the Cambridge Handbook of Personal Relationships. In recent years he has published on the history of relationship research, the beginnings of relationships, interpersonal aspects of sexuality, the maintenance of relationships, the problematic aspects of relationships and the ways relationships foster well-being. He has served as editor or co-editor of four journals including the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships and Personal Relationships. He has been actively involved as an elected officer in the International Association of Relationship Research (IARR), the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI), and the Canadian Psychological Association.
