HES 2006-2007 Highlights


  • Enrollment has increased! Current enrollment is about 1550 students (1300 undergrads and 250 graduate students);
  • Total student credit hour production increased by over 10% from Fall '06 compared with Fall '05;
  • New faculty were added in each department;
  • New department chairs in Human Development and Family Studies and Social Work have taken over for Drs. Dave Demo and John Rife who had served for 10 and 8 years, respectively;
  • New staff added in 2007:
    1. Dr. John Rife as Associate Dean for Academic Administration
    2. Dr. Marion O'Brien, Associate Dean for Research
    3. Mr. Jeffrey Stoutenburg, Assistant Dean for Budget, Planning and Personnel
    4. Ms. Jennifer Clark, Director for Student Services
  • Over 500 students participated in internships, practica, or other community assignments;
  • Two "inter-institutional" programs are active and receiving awards: joint Master of Social Work program with NC A&T State University and joint MS degree in Family Life and Parenting Education between HES' Department of Human Development and Family Studies and NC State's Department of Family and Consumer Sciences;
  • Departments of Interior Architecture and Social Work successfully worked with Greensboro's Department of Housing to design and construct the "Dillard Street House" and to assist with the elderly couple's move;
  • All programs were successfully accredited by appropriate bodies; most recently, NCATE and state of NC Department of Public Instruction successfully accredited Birth-Kindergarten teacher education and the School Social Work licensure programs;
  • BOT approved HES' newest center (The Center for Research Excellence in Bioactive Food Components) located at NC Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC;
  • HES obtained over $6.9 million in external funding for calendar year 2006 and over $10 million for fiscal year 2006.
