Busy Year Ahead for Bob Wineburg

The New Year is shaping up to be a busy one for Dr. Robert Wineburg, Jefferson Pilot Excellence Professor in the Department of Social Work at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In addition to having a new book out, Wineburg will travel to the University of Malta as a Fulbright Senior Specialist; study how best to use the resources of the religious community in Wilmington, Delaware, courtesy of a $112,000 contract; and take 15-20 students to Costa Rica for a six-credit Spanish immersion/social work experience during the first summer session.
He will go to Malta March 1-15 to help with curriculum and internship development in the university's new master's degree in social work program. He also will visit for three weeks in February 2008. His experience developing new programs includes helping lay the groundwork for the Center for New North Carolinians in UNCG's School of Human Environmental Sciences. He will work to arrange for scholars from Malta to visit that innovative center.
The contract for the study in Wilmington, Delaware, was awarded by the United Way of Delaware using money from the Jesse Ball duPont Fund. Wineburg will conduct the study with Dr. Ram Cnaan of the University of Pennsylvania.
The trip to Costa Rica is supported by a $7,500 grant from the Greensboro-based Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation.
Wineburg joined the UNCG faculty in 1980. He served as chairman of the Department of Social Work from 1990 to 1994 and has written extensively about social welfare policy. He wrote the book A Limited Partnership: The Politics of Religion, Welfare, and Social Service (2000) and co-wrote the book The Newer Deal: Social Work and Religion in Partnership (1999)."
