International Opportunities

The UNCG International Programs Center wants to send you far, far away!!! And for many good reasons!

Study Abroad is no longer a luxury item for college students. It has become an educational and occupational necessity in this globally-interdependent world.

  • Foreign language proficiency is not required! While we are delighted to send students with foreign language ability to hone their language skills, most of the 200+ UNCG students going abroad next year will be enrolled in courses taught in English – many in non-English speaking countries!
  • Students can study abroad as sophomores, juniors or seniors. It’s no longer only a “Junior Year Abroad” program.
  • Study abroad is integrated into the student’s curriculum at UNCG. It’s not a “time out”, but is built in to the progress toward the degree. We work with the student and academic advisors to ensure that courses taken abroad will count towards the UNCG degree.

And the best part is… You can afford this!

The International Programs Center (IPC) can send you almost anywhere in the world at a cost about equal to that of an academic semester or year at UNCG. If you can afford to attend UNCG, then you can afford to Study Abroad!

How do we do this?
Through IPC partnerships with universities abroad!

Through various exchange agreements with overseas universities, a UNCG student can study abroad for a semester or year while these same universities send their students to study at UNCG. Under these arrangements, the UNCG student prepays tuition, fees, and often, room and board, at the same cost as being in residence at UNCG.

Of course, there are other costs involved: the airline ticket, passport fees, etc. But these turn out to be much less than you might think. IPC is also able to provide travel grants to all UNCG students through our Endowment for International Programs.

And yes, financial aid can be applied to Study Abroad. Students studying abroad may not only continue to receive federal grants and loans, but may in fact be eligible for additional aid to compensate for any increased costs. In addition, there are UNCG scholarship funds available for Study Abroad students as well as scholarships from other private, external funding agencies which provide assistance to students going on study abroad programs.

Semester or year long exchange programs may not be suitable for all students so we offer other study abroad opportunities including summer and short term programs led by UNCG faculty.

Please see more specific information below for your major. Please also check out the study abroad and exchange website: http://studyabroad.uncg.edu. Your next step is to stop at the study abroad and exchange office at 103A Foust (334-5404) and ask to schedule an “options” appointment. This will give you more information on our partner schools as well as details on the application process, finances, etc. Also, be sure to get feedback from your academic advisors as to how study abroad fits with your major.
