Applying for Grants
Steps to Applying for a Grant
The HES Office of Research staff can help during each step of the process.
STEP 1. Spread the word. Contact the following offices for guidance and to alert them of your plans and relevant deadlines:
- HES Office of Research, contact Dr. Marion O'Brien;
- Office of Sponsored Programs, contact Charna Howson (334-4316). Submit the Intent
to Apply Form to OSP. They will help you submit the proposal electronically
before the deadline, after they receive approval and signatures from your
department and school (see Green Folder process below);
- Keep your department chair updated!
STEP 2. Consultation and preparation.
- Visit our "Investigator's Toolbox" section at the bottom of this page;
- Contact Dr. Marion O'Brien or Deana Hasty for consultation and assistance with budget development;
- Prepare the proposal according to the requirements or specifications of the potential sponsor and within any format that the sponsor may stipulate;
- Take advantage of the experience of colleagues who have knowledge that can be useful in program or project design, peer reviews and in proposal preparation.
STEP 3. Get your proposal routed through HES to OSP and out to the sponsor. Your proposal will need to be routed using the RAMSeS online submission system. The proposal will be routed to the appropriate offices for review and signatures.
- Contact Deana Hasty for assistance with starting a RAMSeS proposal.
