HES Research Facilities
The commitment to research excellence is reflected in the research facilities available to HES faculty. Facilities are available in the form of laboratories for research in specific areas, as well the many Centers within HES.
Behavioral Research Facility
Location: Stone Building (1st Floor)
The Behavioral Research Facility (BRF) was completed in Fall of 2005 as part of the recent renovation of Stone Building. The BRF includes a Survey and Marketing facility (176 sq. ft.) containing 7 workstations for transcriptions and coding of telephone interview and video data and high-speed data scanning equipment. The BRF also houses nearly 400 sq. ft. of paired video/observation/interview rooms furnished with remote camera control and recording technology for observational research. The BRF is available for use by all HES department faculty.

Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies
Location: 210 Stone Building
- Temperature and humidity-controlled facilities for an historic costume and textile collection;
- State-of-the-science equipment and computer software for studying advances in textile products' design and marketing;
- Industrial apparel design and production laboratories.
Human Development and Family Studies
- The Family Research Center
located on 536 Highland Avenue, equipped
to conduct observational research with families and children and to house
longitudinal studies of child care and development;
- The Infant-Toddler-Parent Research Laboratory, located in the
Stone Building (first floor), equipped to investigate maternal emotional and cognitive responsiveness to infant distress.
Interior Architecture
Location: 102 Gatewood Studio Arts Building
- Computer-aided design (CAD) labs with state-of-science computer software for studying interior architecture and apparel design;
- Design studios equipped for studying interior architecture.
Nutrition
Location: Stone Building (3rd floor)
- The Dickson/Harris Teeter Cellular and Molecular Nutrition Research Laboratory equipped to investigate the basic mechanisms by which nutrients promote health and prevent chronic disease;
- The Cemala Foundation Human Nutrition Research Laboratories
study nutrition and health outcomes related to dietary intake;
- A human performance/body composition laboratory for the study of the effects of diet and nutrition on human health and development;
- State-of-the-science equipment for research in human performance, nutritional assessment, and cellular and molecular aspects of nutrition.

Center for Research Excellence in Bioactive Food
Components (part of the Nutrition Department), located in
Kannapolis, NC, contains laboratory facilities including cell
culture facilities, microscopy facilitites and general biochemical lab
facilities.
