1) Nelson-Hodges and O'Neal, Collaborative Development of Global Fiber, Fabric, and Related Products Industry Based Problem Solving Modules for Undergraduate Curricula, $327,386
As the fiber and fabric manufacturing and distribution industry has become global in scope, students preparing for careers in the field need to develop new problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. In this project, UNCG will collaborate with two other US universities, Iowa State and South Dakota State, as well as universities and industries in Thailand, Australia, and Russia to develop educational materials and collaborative projects that prepare students for globally connected careers.
1) Scott-Little, Pennsylvania Standards and Assessment Alignment Analyses, Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11, $100,000
Analyses will be conducted to examine the alignment between early childhood standards and assessments in Pennsylvania, and the extent to which early childhood standards and assessments are consistent with the state's third grade standards and assessments.
1) McIntosh, Predoctoral Fellowship Award, NIH, $27,662
This award provides support to a graduate student mentored by Dr. McIntosh who is examining novel dietary strategies for controlling human obesity.
2) Lovelady, Promoting Post-partum Weight Loss in Overweight Women, subcontract from Duke University, $30,026 (renewal)
This project is a 5-year randomized controlled trial of an intervention to increase physical activity and promote a healthy diet in order to encourage weight loss in postpartum women who were overweight or obese prior to pregnancy.
3) Lovelady, KAN-DO: Kids and Adults Now: Defeat Obesity, subcontract from Duke University, $155,149 (renewal)
KAN-DO is an intervention program encouraging postpartum mothers and their preschooler to work together to increase physical activity, reduce sedentary behaviors, and promote healthy eating. The goal is to improve parenting skills and encourage weight loss in overweight mothers who have recently given birth, and maintain healthy weight in children.
1) Dennison and Beerman, Child Welfare Education Collaborative, Jordan Institute, $31,827
The goal of this project is to improve recruitment and retention of child welfare social workers. Stipends and specific training are provided to participating students, who then commit to two years of service in the NC Departments of Social Services.
2) Lindsey, Child Welfare Training Evaluation, NCDHHS-DSS, $152,742
The child welfare system in North Carolina is complex and involves extensive staff training. This project assists the state by evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of the training system and providing technical assistance for training.
3) Poole and Moore, Gero Innovations Grant for Master's Advanced Curriculum Project, Council on Social Work Education, $19,098
In this project, teaching and learning modules that focus on health and mental health care for older adults will be developed and internship opportunities for students will be expanded. The goal is to enhance students' levels of competency in providing services to the elderly population.
4) (Joint project with CNNC): Bailey and Chevalier, Interpreter Training Instruction, North Carolina Area Health Education Centers Program, $28,000 (renewal)
Goal is to increase access to health services by immigrants by having trained medical staff who can act as interpreters for immigrants. Funds support 40 one-day interpreter trainings at area health education centers across NC.
