Congressman to Visit UNCG Center Jan. 27
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro will host a U.S. Representative who has supported one of the university’s most important clinics.
U.S. Rep. Howard Coble. (R-6 th District) will visit the UNCG Hearing Center, which is run by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the School of Health and Human Performance, at 1 p.m. Jan. 27. Chancellor Patricia Sullivan will also be present for the tour.
Coble was instrumental in securing funding to establish the UNCG Tinnitus Clinic, which was founded in 2002 and is part of the Speech and Hearing Center. He ensured that UNCG, CSD and the clinic received the Congressional Earmark Grant that supports tinnitus clinic services. Severe tinnitus is a condition that is manifested by constant ringing in the ears and that affects some 50 million Americans. The clinic not only serves the community with services such as Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, but also provides a training ground for students who are receiving their education at UNCG. The Speech and Hearing Center, in operation since 1967, provides diagnostic and therapy services for children and adults in the greater Greensboro community.
