UNCG Exercise and Sport Science Program Nationally Recognized
The American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education has ranked a program at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro among the top-25 in the nation.
The organization ranked the doctoral program in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science 24 th in the nation, a tie with Purdue University. UNCG’s program was ranked with other national programs including those at the University of Maryland, the University of Michigan and Penn State University.
“Today, many students and prospective students are interested in how a college or a university stacks up in national rankings,” said Dr. Kathleen Williams, head of the department. “In this regard, the initiative of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education will give students another important piece of information in weighing their decisions about which schools they might attend.”
Thirty-three programs were evaluated between 2000 and 2004. Criteria included faculty productivity, faculty visibility, internal funding, external grant funding, and student qualifications such as GRE scores and post-doctoral employment.
