| William Dudley | Trajectories of QOL in Prostate Cancer Survivors using Growth Curve Modeling
A two year study to carry out statistical analyses of how prostate cancer survivors change over a three year period in a number of outcomes important to these men including; sexual function, urinary incontinence, and wellbeing. The study is a retrospective study of about 900 men treated for prostate cancer at the Fox Chase Comprehensive Cancer Center in Philadelphia PA and then followed for three years. The men were treated with either; external beam radiation, Brachytherapy (internal seed radiation), or surgical removal of the prostate (prostatectomy). The Principle investigator of the study is Dr. Michael A. Diefenbach a health psychologist who is on the faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Our goal is to identify predictors of adaptation to prostate cancer treatments so that we can better advise men what to expect as they recover from treatment. In addition, the study provides a rare opportunity to employ powerful statistical techniques that have been developed in developmental psychology but which have yet to be fully employed in other clinical areas of research such as cancer symptom management. |

Anterior Cruciate Ligment (ACL) Knee Injuries ACL injury can profoundly impact on health and physical activity, both immediately following injury and reconstructive surgery, and later in life as a consequence of the early onset of osteoarthritis. These complications are of greatest concern in young active females, who are at a 5 to 8 times greater risk of suffering ACL injury compared to equivalently trained males. Advancing our knowledge of the underlying pathophysiological mechanism(s) of ACL injuries will further the development of optimal prevention, rehabilitation and training strategies to reduce the risk of sport-related injury, thereby enhancing the beneficial effects of physical activity on women’s health for all ages.
