History

The Avren Scholarship was established in 2007 by Beverly and Chris Avren for the purpose of rewarding scholastic excellence to a student majoring in Recreation, Tourism, & Hospitality Management and to show their gratitude to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Beverly and Chris Avren

Beverly Revell Avren was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Los Angeles, CA. After attending Loyola Marymount College for one year, she began a long career in the travel industry. Chris Avren was born and raised in Columbus, OH and attended the Ohio State University. Chris and Beverly met and were married in Los Angeles and have two sons, Nick and Reed. Chris' employment with AIG United Guaranty brought the family to Greensboro in 1986. Here, as a mother of two young some, Beverly, with the support of her family, decided to complete her college education. With her background in the travel industry, she was drawn to what was then called Recreation, Parks and Tourism. She graduated in 1997.
