THE SADYE DUNN DOXIE UNDERGRADUATE INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AWARD

Purpose

To support undergraduate research conducted by highly motivated Health and Human Performance students working with faculty mentors from any department in the school.

Eligibility
  • Current juniors or seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.00* from any department in the school.

*Students may apply with a GPA’s of less than 3.00, but should include a letter from their research mentor detailing compelling reasons why the applicant should be considered.

Usual size of award: $500

History

The Dunn Doxie Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Award Fund was established in 2006 by Sadye Dunn Doxie with a gift to the School of Health and Human Performance.

Sadye Dunn Doxie

Sadye Dunn Doxie was born in Bladenboro, North Carolina and graduated from the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in 1957 with a Batchelor of Science degree in physical education. At Woman's College, she was active in various aspects of student life including serving as a Junior House President and as Student Government President. She was the recipient of a Weil scholarship for graduate study enabling her to complete graduate work at the Harvard-Radcliffe program in Business Administration. She returned to UNCG and served as Director of Admission and as Dean of Students prior to moving to Washington, DC. In Washington, she served in administrative positions with VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and subsequently the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission until her retirement in 2001. She and her husband Melvin Doxie, reside in Washington, D.C.
