Eligibility- Rising junior or senior enrolled in the teacher education sequence in the Department of Dance (for 2007-2008).
- Minimum of 2.5 GPA.
- Teaching potential and need major factors in selection.
Usual Size of Award: $2,300.
HistoryThe June P. Galloway Scholarship was established in her memory in 1974, for a student in teacher education in the School of Health and Human Performance.
Dr. June P. GallowayDr. Galloway, a native of Easley, S.C. received her B.S. degree from the University of Georgia and master's degree and doctorate in education from UNCG. She joined the UNCG faculty in 1957 and died in March 1974 after a short illness. While at UNCG, Dr. Galloway served as coordinator for student teaching, coordinator of the athletic division and was one of the first coaches for women's basketball. She directed the Center for Innovation in Secondary School Physical Education at Smith High School and the UNCG summer day camp for a number of years. Professional leadership responsibilities included president of the NCAHPERD and of the Southern Association of Physical Education for Women. The 1974 President of SAPECW, when announcing Dr. Galloway's death wrote: "June's entire life (May 5, 1932) is one of example for the best we have in the profession. The inner values of this person serve as an outstanding heritage to any student, colleague, or friend. Few people pass our way during a life time that mean so much to so many,"
