Purpose of AwardTo support travel, registration and/or accommodations for professional development experiences. Such experiences may include, but are not limited to, regional and national conferences/conventions, research collaboration, and international study. This fund may NOT be used for in-state conferences/conventions.
EligibilityUnique Requirements
Upon completion of the professional development experience, the recipient will be asked to make an oral or written reportsharing insights gained from his/her recent experience with an appropriate faculty member or group (e.g., academic advisor, scheduled class, selected group of faculty and students).
HistoryThe Marian K. Solleder Student Professional Development Fund was established in 1998 to honor Dr. Solleder, professor and former head of the Department of Public Health Education from 1966-1980 and as Assistant Dean of the School of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (now Health and Human Performance) from 1980-1988.
Dr. Marian K. SollederWhile at UNCG, Dr. Solleder was instrumental in the development of the bachelor's and master's degree programs in school health education and community health education. She also advised and taught both undergraduate and master's level students, many of whom are in positions as specialists and administrators in varied health and health education settings. Additionally, Dr. Solleder was active in promoting health education at the national level and in North Carolina, which, in the late 1960s was just starting to recognize health education as a field of undergraduate study and teacher certification.
