Eligibility- Graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Dance.
- Commitment to using dance in a context of human liberation and social justice and whose presence will increase the racial diversity of the department.
- Financial need (file a FAFSA).
Usual Size of Award: $800.
HistoryThe Melanie Feinstein Memorial Scholarship in Dance was established in 1993 with gifts from family, friends, and colleagues concerned that the memory of a remarkable young woman be honored in a manner reflective of the profound influence she had on their lives.
Melanie FeinsteinMelanie Feinstein earned a B.F.A. in Dance from UNCG in 1985 and was working towards certification to teach dance in public schools at the time of her tragic death in 1988. It was the fact that her ethical sense was as fully developed as her artistic sense, and the way she linked these two elements in her life's work, that immortalized Melanie in the eyes of her colleagues.
