The Priscilla Mullen Gowen Scholarship

Eligibility
  • Undergraduate student in the Department of Recreation, Tourism, & Hospitality Management (for 2007-2008).
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA.
  • Leadership skills or potential.
  • Active with extracurricular activities on campus.

Usual size of award: $800

History

The Priscilla Mullen Gowen Scholarship was established to recognize undergraduate students in the School of Health and Human Performance who have demonstrated leadership skills or potential and/or have been active with extracurricular activities on campus.

Priscilla Mullen Gowen

Priscilla Mullen Gowen graduated from the Woman's College (now UNCG) in 1934. She received her masters degree from Columbia University (NY) and taught at Converse College in Spartanburg , SC and at Gunston Hall School in Washington , DC. Mrs. Gowen was President and Director of Reinco Corporation, a real estate and investment company, and the corporate Secretary and Director of Gowen Oil Company, Inc., a distributor of Amoco products. Mrs. Gowen died in December 2002.
