THE JOSEPHINE L. SUTLIVE SCHOLARSHIP IN DANCE EDUCATION

Eligibility
  • Full time, entering or continuing students majoring in dance or dance education and seeking teacher licensure in dance education, preferably, K-12.
  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA.

History

The Josephine L. Sutlive Scholarship in Dance Education was established in 2007 with a gift from Josephine L. Sutlive (Jody) for the purpose of providing scholarship support for students majoring in dance or dance education.

Dr. Jody Sutlive

Dr. Sutlive, a native of Savannah, Georgia, attended undergraduate school at Armstrong College (now Armstrong State University) and Georgia Southern where she majored in Physical Education. She received a M.S. in Dance Education from the University of Tennessee and an Ed.D. in Physical Education with a concentration in Dance from UNCG in 1982. Dr. Sutlive taught at Iowa State University, Peace College, St. Mary’s College, Elon College, Salem College and in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. In 1995 she served as a consultant with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Dance and Elementary Arts. Dr. Sutlive was an active member and past president of the Dance Division of the North Carolina Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. In 2001, she received from the School of HHP, UNCG, the Ethel Martus Lawther Alumni Award for her contributions to Dance Education in the state. One of her sisters, Barbara Sutlive-Glowacki, is a member of the Class of 1945.
