The HES Department of Social Work is hosting 10 Scottish students and their instructor during the month of July. The students are joining 11 UNCG students to study comparative social welfare in the two countries. The instructors are Professor Graham McPheat from Scotland and Dr. John Rife from UNCG.
This exchange, which has continued between UNCG and the Glasgow School of Social Work in Glasgow, Scotland for over twenty years, provides students with an in-depth look at how social services are designed and delivered in the two countries. The Office of International programs at UNCG has provided continuous support for this program. This year, the ten Scottish students left Glasgow just hours before the bombings at the Glasgow airport.
In addition to the class, students have visited social work agencies in Greensboro and participated in social activities with faculty and students. In 2008, UNCG faculty will take another group of UNCG students to Glasgow for a month of study.
