Commencement House

Embodying many mid-century modern characteristics, Commencement House was designed and constructed by 23 UNCG students under the supervision of noted Greensboro architect Edward Loewenstein in 1958. Initially the house was celebrated and widely publicized but it had deteriorated in recent years. When the house was threatened with demolition in early 2009, the Architectural Conservation class, led by Jo Ramsay Leimenstoll, stepped up to document the exterior and interior through photographs, creating a digital data base of current Commencement House images.
