Hilda was the Manager of interior design planning and services in the department of Facilities Planning, Design & Construction of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She joined WFUBMC in 1989 as its first designer and worked on most of the six million sq. feet over the past 18 years.
As Manager of interior design services, Hilda was responsible for providing the school and hospital with creative, consistent and cost-effective design solutions for all renovations and new projects as well as supervising designers and interns, establishing standards for furniture and finishes, working with project and construction managers and procurement through project completion, and purchasing art for all projects. Completed or in-progress projects include in-patient units (900 beds), classrooms, administrative areas, operating rooms, cafeterias, labs, auditoriums, geriatric, rehabilitation and out-patient clinics. Special projects include affiliate hospitals in Stokes and Davie Counties and a 161-room hotel owned by the hospital.
Hilda began her career in healthcare design while working for an architectural firm in Baltimore on projects for the University of Maryland Medical System and the Johns Hopkins System. Prior to Baltimore she was Executive Director of the Community Design Center in Columbia, SC. She served as a liaison with the office of Community Development and the Citizens Advisory Committee to provide free design services in interior design, architecture, landscape architecture and historic preservation to non-profit organizations in the city.
