Katie Wakeford is an intern architect at Bizios Architect, a residential design firm located in Durham, NC. Katie co-edited both Bridging the Gap: Public-Interest Architectural Internships (Raleigh: Lulu, 2011) and Expanding Architecture: Design as Activism (New York: Metropolis Books, 2008), a collection of essays on design in the service of the greater public good. She was listed in the 2012 Public Interest Design 100, honoring professionals working at the intersection of design and service. Wakeford spent six years with the NC State University School of Architecture’s Home Environments Design Initiative, a research and community engagement endeavor focusing on affordable and sustainable housing. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and a project reviewer for the SEED Network, an organization committed to guiding, measuring, evaluating and certifying the social, economic and environmental impact of design projects.
