Michael Elliott
Director

Michael has worked in the international education field for approximately 15 years, with a primary focus on international student services and programs. He has worked and lived in South Africa and Kenya, and traveled to countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Michael earned his Master of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Ohio University and Bachelor of Arts from University of Colorado. He is a member of NAFSA, IIE and the Fulbright Alumni Association.


Norma Velazquez

Assistant Director

Norma is originally from Mexico. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems & Operations Management from UNCG and currently pursues a Master of Arts degree in Conflict Resolution. Ms. Velazquez has worked at the International Programs Center since 2002 providing foreign students and faculty with services and programs to enrich their experience at UNCG and in Greensboro.

Tom Martinek, Jr.

Tom has been working as the Assistant Director of Study Abroad and Exchange Programs since January 2004. He is a former student at UNCG and during that time participated on an exchange program to the University of Oulu, Finland. He also participated on a Rotary Group Study Exchange program to Germany in May of 2005. Tom grew up in Greensboro and has always enjoyed working in an international setting, whether it be traveling or being involved with international communities here in North Carolina.


Denise Bellamy

Denise joined the IPC team as the Assistant Director of Study Abroad and Exchange Programs in June of 2007. As a military dependant, she spent her childhood traveling and continues to have that same passion today. She holds a Masters of Education in International Higher Education Leadership (Emphasis in Multicultural Counseling) from Old Dominion University and a Bachlor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University. Denise enjoys encouraging young people to think, learn, and experience life globally!  


Ajaya Francis

A native of India, Ajaya moved to the US when she was ten years old. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from UNCG with a second major in Psychology. Her adjustment to a new culture and way of life has inspired her to be involved in the International Students Association and study abroad at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. In her current role at IPC, she provides support for international students taking part in the UNCG Disney International College Program and is the liaison for faculty-led study abroad programs.


Wendy Jones-Worden

Wendy is from North Carolina and is passionate about languages and study abroad.  Her own study abroad experiences include: Argentina (one year), Spain (one year), Brazil (one month) and France (one month). She holds a Master of Arts degree in Spanish and teaches beginning and intermediate Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages. In addition, she is an Academic Advisor for IPC, a position that she has held since 2001. Wendy’s current focus is making sure her young daughter, her husband and two dogs are all fluent in Spanish.  Her daughter has made the most progress so far.

Pamela Harrod

Pam was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Educational Development from UNCG. Pam has lived in England and Australia, and studied in Nice, France. She lives in Winston-Salem with her husband and their dog and cat.  Knitting, reading, visiting with their 2 sons, and traveling are her favorite activities.

Katie Ostrowka

Katie, a native of New York State, has lived in North Carolina since 1996. She graduated from UNCG in 2007 with a Bachlor of Arts in Communication Studies and English and hopes to continue her education at UNCG for a Master of Arts in English. She studied abroad in 2006 at the University of Växjö in Sweden. She loves movies, reading, and traveling.
